Free Home Selling Class in Portland - September 23, 2026
Thinking about selling your home but not sure where to start?
Join us on Wednesday, September 23rd for our next Tacos, Margaritas & Home Selling Class, a free and casual home seller class designed to help homeowners understand what it really takes to successfully sell a home in today's market.
We’ll have tacos, margaritas and non-alcoholic drinks while we walk through the home selling process from beginning to end and answer questions along the way.
There’s no sales pitch and no expectation that you’re ready to put your home on the market right now. The goal is to give you useful information so you can make better decisions about your home, whether you are thinking about selling next month or sometime next year.
What We'll Cover
Selling a home involves a lot more than putting a sign in the yard and waiting for an offer.
During the class, we'll talk about:
- How the home selling process works from start to finish
- What you should do before putting your home on the market
- Which repairs and improvements may be worth making and which ones may not be
- How to prepare your home so it shows its best
- How homes are priced and what determines market value
- How buyers search for homes and what gets their attention
- Marketing strategies that can help your home stand out
- Showings and what buyers are paying attention to
- How to evaluate an offer beyond just the purchase price
- Inspections, repair negotiations and appraisal
- Common mistakes home sellers make
- How to sell your current home while buying your next one
- What the Portland, Oregon and Southwest Washington real estate markets look like in 2026
Most importantly, we'll leave plenty of time for questions.
If you've been wondering what your home might be worth, whether you should remodel before selling, how much selling a home costs, or how you can buy another home without ending up temporarily homeless, this is a great place to start.
Understanding How Buyers Think
One of the biggest advantages a seller can have is understanding the person on the other side of the transaction.
We'll spend time talking about how today's buyers search for homes, what causes them to get excited about a property, what can turn them off, and how they make decisions about price.
We'll also discuss why the first few weeks on the market matter, how buyers react to price reductions, and why properly preparing and positioning a home from the beginning can make such a difference.
The goal isn't simply to get your home sold. It's to create the best possible combination of price, terms, timing and certainty for your situation.
Should I Make Repairs Before Selling My Home?
This is one of the most common questions homeowners ask.
The answer depends on the home, the market and the repair.
Some improvements can make a home easier to sell or help it command a higher price. Others may cost more than you'll ever get back.
We'll talk about how to separate improvements that may help your sale from projects that could simply consume time and money.
We'll also discuss staging, landscaping, paint, deferred maintenance and some of the relatively inexpensive things that can have an outsized impact on a buyer's first impression.
How Do You Determine What a Home Is Worth?
Pricing is one of the most important decisions you'll make when selling.
We'll explain how real estate agents and buyers evaluate comparable sales, competition, condition, location and current market activity to determine what a home is likely to sell for.
We'll also talk about the risks of pricing too high, why simply "trying a higher price" isn't always harmless, and how buyers respond to homes that have been sitting on the market.
Understanding how buyers interpret price can help you make a much more informed decision when it's time to list your home.
What Happens When You Receive an Offer?
Purchase price is important, but it's only one part of an offer.
We'll explain some of the other terms sellers should consider, including financing, down payment, earnest money, inspections, appraisal, closing costs, contingencies and closing timelines.
Two offers with the exact same price can create very different outcomes for a seller.
Understanding the entire offer can help you decide which one gives you the best combination of price and likelihood of actually making it to closing.
What If I Need to Sell My Home Before Buying Another One?
You're definitely not alone.
Many homeowners have enough equity to purchase their next home, but that equity is tied up in the home they're currently living in.
We'll talk about the different ways sellers can approach buying and selling at the same time, including contingent offers, timing the two transactions, temporary housing and other strategies that may be available depending on your situation.
Planning this part of the move before putting your home on the market can make the entire process much less stressful.
Is This Class Only for People Selling Right Away?
Not at all.
This class is for anyone considering selling a home in Portland, the surrounding Oregon communities or Southwest Washington.
You might be:
- Planning to sell in the next few months
- Thinking about moving sometime next year
- Trying to decide whether to remodel or sell
- Moving up to a larger home
- Downsizing
- Relocating
- Selling an investment property
- Helping a parent or family member sell a home
- Simply curious about what selling would look like in today's market
You don't need to have made a decision yet.
In fact, learning about the process before you're under pressure to make one is usually the best time to do it.
Already Working With a Real Estate Agent?
You're still welcome.
This is an educational class, and if you're already working with another real estate agent, we'll respect that relationship.
Come have some tacos, learn about the process and ask questions.
You're also welcome to bring your spouse, partner, friend or anyone else who will be involved in the decision to sell your home.

Thinking About Selling a Home in Oregon or Washington?
You don't need to know exactly when you're selling before you start preparing.
Understanding your home's potential value, what improvements might be worthwhile, what buyers are looking for and how the selling process works can help you make much better decisions long before a For Sale sign ever goes in the yard.
Come spend an hour and a half with us, have some tacos and a margarita, and learn how the process actually works.
Our goal is for you to leave with a much clearer understanding of how to prepare your home, how buyers make decisions, what mistakes to avoid and what your next steps should be whenever you're ready.
Reserve Your Seat
The class is completely free, but please RSVP in advance through Eventbrite so we know how many tacos and margaritas to prepare.
We hope to see you on September 23rd!
